Our pets make our lives better many ways. I know this from first hand as we have a young cat (Tokyo – me daughter named her, so we stuck with the unusual name) and Luca our dwarf Cocker Spaniel. (Like humans, dogs can have short limbs too.) We love them – they’re being a lot of joy: laughs with their silly zoomies or snuggling up to us, they can even sense when we’re sad or upset, they help keeping us fit with daily walks and generally being a great company. Anyone who has a pet on their own understands this feeling. They are family.
As we treat as a family member: they deserve the best. But the best doesn’t mean disregarding everything else – we care for the Earth and the environment, so naturally, pet care also need to meet to eco standards, like most things in our family life. Did you know, that for example an average pet cat can generate an estimated 310 kg of carbon-dioxide emissions per year?
It’s not alway easy or possible to do better, however, we can always aim to make it work or find better alternatives of pet care products.

When it comes to making more eco-conscious choices when caring for their pets, owners now have more options and don’t have to choose between the welfare of their furry companions and the welfare of the planet. Eco-friendly pet care products that not only reduce environmental impact but also provides pet owners with affordable options that prioritise the health and happiness of their pets.

Biodegradable Poop Bags
These are certainly a default now for many dog owners, but worth pointing out. Also – they still need to be binned rather then just left in the woods!
Gentle Grooming Products
Pretty much like we use clean beauty skincare and beauty products – our pets also enjoy dog shampoo that is not only free from harsh chemicals, vegan and aren’t tested on animals. I mean, in a laboratory.
Reducing Plastic in Pet Food Packaging
Some pet food brands are now packing dry pet food sensibly in paper bags – so we opt for these, whilst we try to buy cans when it comes to wet food, to avoid the mixed material pouches that cannot be recycled.
Pet Food
Pet food also needs to be considered not only because of its packaging, but also what goes into it and the way its being made. Their production contribute to carbon emissions, due mainly to the farming methods. Luckily, a lot of ethically and sustainably produced options are now available.
Bamboo Towels
We love our bamboo and linen bedding and towels – and our dog, who loves a good swim too. Bamboo towels from Animed are practical, super soft, absorbent and quick drying. Bamboo is a sustainable alternative to conventional cotton as it doesn’t require pesticides and grows fast.
Tablets Instead of Spot-on Solution
Recent studies have highlighted concerns about the presence of chemicals from pet parasite treatments in UK waterways and even in birds nests lined with fur. Spot-on solutions contain chemicals that are are toxic to aquatic life and insects but not mammals. However, many options are now available in a form of tablets – which will be picked up in a poo bag, meaning they are much better in that way.
Eco-friendly Toys
Plastic toys – especially your pet tend to chew on them (like our dog) aren’t great as the animal inevitably will swallow plastic bits. And whilst of course it comes out on the other side – we don’t know how indigested micro-plastics and the chemicals they contain can effect their health. So opt for natural rope or rubber toys.
Collapsible Silicone Water Bowl
These reusable drinking bowls are super handy on a warm day out or on a long walk. They take up very little space and they can be simply refilled from our own reusable water bottles.
Eco-friendly Cat Litter
For cat owners, cat litter is another thing to look into. Clay litter may be made of a natural material, which is clay – but it isn’t actually great for the environment. Try wood pellet, wheat, grass seed, or even recycled paper cat litter instead.
