Oh I love clever reusable inventions! Don’t laugh, I know reusable cups were a thing a millennia ago too or in fact before that. so I’m not going to praise it as an invention – although it definitely deserves the star of the reusables with so many takeaway cups diverted from landfill. Reusable cups are now the old/new normal again or at least people find this zero-waste swap doable. However, If I told you, even a reusable cup can be reinvented? Meet Splitflask, the invention of a clever NICU nurse and her husband (I mean, they are all superheroes to start with, so no surprise there!).
How does Splitflask work?
Splitflask is designed to hold two different drinks in the same cup at the same time. Because it has double-walled vacuum insulation, one of the drinks can be cold and the other one even hot. Put the lid on the right way (sippy lid goes with the hot drink and the lid silicon straw goes with the cold drink. You can put any kinds of drinks in the flask: water, coffee, tea, smoothies, fruit juice etc – multiple choices and combinations depending on what do you like.
Who is Spitflask designed for?
As I mentioned, a NICU nurse invented Splitflask, out of frustration: she could only carry one bottle of drink during her shift at the hospital, so she had to choose between a hot drink and her water bottle. But with Splitflask this dilemma is solved: no need to choose between hydration and the morning coffee!
It’s good for people who tend to forget to drink enough water (coffee doesn’t helps you to meet your hydration goals). It can also help people with ADHD or those simply just want to be more organised and carry less around. Perfect for long walks, sightseeing trips, to support different diets, even.
Anyone, really!
What I thought about it
I loved that Splitflask keeps the two beverages completely separated and is leak proof. No spilling coffee on your clothes, no coffee mixing with the other drink and most importantly, the insulation works very well and so your hot drink stays hot and cold drink stays cold for a few hours. Which is why it’s perfect for me
- for school runs (I have to drive at least 2-3 hours daily – traffic dependent – as my children are in different schools and one of them is a special school for autistic kids which is the only one suitable for us. No way of cutting the driving time down at the moment) it’s really nice to have hot coffee and water with me on the drive.
- It will be perfect for long weekend walks too! Coffee and water on the picnic.
- Finally, this might be something specific, but here goes: I absolutely hate drinking after others. Just need to remember which side was mine… I mean, I’m sorry but who wants the kiddos’ germs? Not me!
The Splitflask is dishwasher safe – another plus point making life easier and no need to hand wash (some fancy reusables can be dishwasher intolerant!)
Where can you buy Splitflask?
Visit Splitflask’s web shop to order online. It comes in 12 fun colours and retails at £69.99 (currently on sale at £44.99) Risk-free, with our 30-day money-back guarantee.
Why take your own reusable cup?
Taking your own reusable cup is a simple yet impactful choice that benefits both the environment. Each time you bring your cup, you help reduce the staggering amount of disposable cups that end up in landfill. Did you know that most disposable cups are not recyclable due to their plastic lining? And of course bottled water is just packed in virgin plastic. None of them are even good for you: the heat breaks micro particles off the lining and you will be consuming some of that with your beverage.
By choosing a reusable option, you contribute to decreasing waste and conserving resources: because less virgin plastic will be produced. Not only is this eco-friendly approach better for the planet, but it also often comes with perks. Many cafes offer discounts or bonuses to customers who bring their own cups, making it a win-win situation.
