My children love slushies, It’s such a nice treat in summer. I like them too, especially in a form of frozen margaritas. What I don’t like about slushies is that I always need to buy them in plastic cups with plastic straws and I’ve no idea what they contain, probably a lot of additives and artificial colouring. And sugar of course. But with a slushie machine at home, you can make all sorts of delicious frozen drinks at home, no need to go to a café, it cost less than a slushie or frappe bought in a café, no excess plastic involved and you are more in control what goes into the slushie. Lucky for me, I’ve been sent the newest slushie maker by, the Inoviva Slushie Machine S2. If you are into these wonderful summer drinks and making frozen cocktails, read my review below.
The benefits of investing a slushie maker
- you can make any kind of frozen drinks at home
- no need to go to out to buy them
- cheaper than buying them in a drive-thru
- no excess plastic involved
- you are more in control what goes into the slushie
About the Inoviva Slushie Machine S2
The slushie machine’s special cooling technology and temperature control lets you to just pour the ingredients into the slushie machine, no ice needed to be added. The temperature control lets you to decide how soft or icy do you want your drink. You can prepare more than just slushies:
- frappés
- milk shakes
- frozen cocktails
- frozen wines
It serves serving 3 to 6 people and drinks are ready in 10-40 minutes depending on the type of beverage. The machine self cleans with just adding water and run a cleaning cycle, but cleaning brushes are also supplied and you can wash the parts by hand or in the dishwasher.
All drinks need have at least 5% sugar content. For alcoholic frozen drinks, the alcohol level should be between 2.8% and 16%. The machine doesn’t work as intended if the sugar or alcohol content doesn’t reach the minimum.
Review
Assembling the machine
Putting the machine together is simple, also very easy to wash the few parts you need to assemble. It’s a bit heavy but it’s slim so it doesn’t take up too much space. After taking it out of the box, it must be upright for 2 hours before using it, as this needed for the refrigerant fluid to settle.
Operating the machine
Filling the machine is very easy – just pour the contents to the container, select the type of drink you want to make and press start. It has clear instructions on the side of the container for those who normally skip reading the instructions and the minimum and maximum load is clearly market too. When finished the drink, the machine will beep.
My first drink failed as I just used a mixture of juice and cordial, thinking that will be enough sugar content. That wasn’t enough so the machine gave me the E3 error code, which means too low sugar content – but this was after the machine trying to make it work and 6 stirring attempts were made. So I added some brown sugar. After I added the sugar – the first set of drinks were finished in 15-20 minutes. This is clearly marked on the side of the machine along with the alcohol content – but it’s up to you to work out how much is needed, so just keep topping up with sugar/maple or agave syrup, more cordial etc.
Tip: don’t fill the machine to the maximum, because if you need to add more sugar in any form, it will have to be dissolved in some water or juice – whatever you use and poured into the mixer.
The first drinks were really nice even if it took some time to work out the right sugar content.
I made frozen margaritas:
- 8 oz. silver tequila
- 1 cup fresh lime juice
- 4 oz. triple sec
- 2 oz. agave syrup
- 2 tsp brown sugar
- 6 cups water
After this success, I made blueberry slushie for the children by mixing blueberry cordial, cranberry juice, brown sugar and water in a 1.5L jug – tasted it, seemed nice and sweet enough. It was ok to use as a mixture and I did get the sugar content right as well so this time, the slushie was done in 15 minutes.
In the user manual, you can also find more frozen drink recipes if you need some inspiration.
Cleaning the machine
Cleaning the machine was really simple, just poured clean water into the liquid container and pressed the CLEAN button. Then I took it apart and let the parts dry separately.
I recommend this machine for those who:
- love entertaining and want to create show stopping frozen drinks for their guests
- love frozen cocktails and slushies
- want to treat themselves to a treat occasionally but don’t want to go to a cafe or drive-thru
- families with children who love milk shakes and slushies
- don’t mind the bit of an extra sugar that must be added to slushies (can be agave or maple syrup or even honey)
- want to be able to make frozen drinks at home and cut down on single use plastic
