I am trying to use my platform for good as much as I can. As you know, every now and then I try to introduce a charity organisation or social enterprise on my blog in order to raise awareness for them. This time I’d like to introduce: Cycle of Good.

About Cycle of Good – A Social Enterprise

Cycle of Good (parent charity Krizevac Project) is a charity and social enterprise registered in England and Wales. It is a trading initiative, based in Malawi and currently employing about 500 local people. Apart from that, they also help to fund children’s centres locally. It’s a hub, that teaches skills, trains people and they create handmade items, that are made of bicycle inner tubes. 

Partnered with the Royal Mail and Halfords, the charity received bicycles to be refurbished (these are now sold as Elephant Bikes and after every bike sold, one will be sent to Malawi as a donation) and the used inner tubes are being crafted into wonderful new items to be sold and benefiting the charity.

The idea is not only to promote circular economy and reduce waste but to train and educate people who can make living with their skills and crafts. Since the start, the most popular enterprise has been the tailoring school. More than 3000 people (mostly women)  have completed a diploma training course.

And that’s not all, because apart from promoting circular economy and reducing waste, the charity can boast with other fully sustainable features: like the workshop buildings are built using eco block and powered by solar energy. They work closely with a local forestry to plant trees in the nearby mountains (this deforestation work helps to restore forests that are working as fortresses to protect the villages from the effects of climate change), ship in shared containers and even the last bits of inner tube material is used up in a way, so no waste is produced.
