Alex Monroe “Oceans” Collection (In Partnership with Friends of the Earth) – Review

I think nature is very inspiring with all the beautiful creatures: animals and plants, the colours, the shapes and other qualities. However, we all know that our planet and all its inhabitants are facing challenging times as a result of the last decades of human activities of polluting and using nature’s resources unethically and carelessly. Lately, you can hear mostly about how all marine life is being endangered by human pollution, plastic is the prime problem followed by many others: chemicals, factory wastage, and more. I’m sure a lot of people become to realise how big is the problem and that something has to be done: in fact there’s a lot to be done and we must all help and do our bits to save our oceans and the planet. 

I find it wonderful, when artist, creators and brands join the good fight and create something beautiful and special which also serves as a higher purpose, to raise awareness. The new collection of “Oceans” by Alex Monroe is like that. He’s been creating feminine, delicate and quirky fine jewellery inspired by nature for 30 years. The main collections are made in sterling silver and are available in gold-plated finishes. He’s fine jewellery range is all made in solid 18ct gold or platinum. He’s proud to have a longterm commitment to local manufacturing and ethical practises. The manufacture also works with long standing partners based in the UK for the casting and plating of the jewellery, and source all of stones from trusted and ethical suppliers.

Alex’s love of nature didn’t stop here though. He’s a real environmental activist: he gave up plastic thanks to Friends of the Earth’s Drastic on Plastic challenge and wrote about his experience here. And out of the growing environmental concern something very beautiful was born too: his new collection: Oceans. The collection in partnership with Friends of the Earth, 
£10 from every piece of ‘Oceans’ sold will be donated to Friends of the Earth to support their mission to end plastic pollution and protect our oceans, wildlife and planet.

I have received the gold-plated Stingray Necklace from the new collection. Stingrays are curious by nature, just like me – so I felt it was a good match. I absolutely adore this necklace for it’s just as pretty as quirky, not came across many stingray pendants ever – it loos very cool and feminine at the same time.
