Hosting a family pizza party while watching the football in summer is basically every dad’s dream. Right? Lucky for my husband, I absolutely love helping to set up an evening for us as a family and invite some friends over to watch their beloved game and enjoy good food and chat in the garden when the weather is just perfect for it.
And if it’s not, just move the setting into the dining room. All you need is a Ultra HD smart TV you can set up watching the matches for a quality picture and a portable speaker you can set up in the garden – but you can move them into the dining room if you need to. The good thing about the portable speaker, that you can also place it on the table so you get an even better sound experience – without having to listen to the television and setting the volume too high – so the neighbours won’t complain either.
You don’t have to be die-hard fan! Well, I’m not, I don’t even watch football, but I love family gatherings and friends coming over so we can spend some fun time together. I really enjoy dinner and garden parties and tying it with the occasion of summer football championships is such good fun. I mean…. you can even get the boys involved to help planning a setting up!
With the main football event kicking off in June 2026, it’s time to plan your goal scoring, crowd pleasing summer football watch party! I have a few creative ideas on how to host a summer football watching family pizza party, so I’m going to share them in this article.
Setting the Scene for Your Summer Family Pizza Party and Football Watching
First things first: let’s decide about the settings: where in the garden you’d want to set up the TV, table and chairs – or other seating options. Depending on the size of your party, decide how much food you’ll need and how you’d like to serve it. You can also decorate the space with reusable flags or even ask the children to get involved and get crafting paper decoration. Consider using a projector to show the game outside if the weather permits—it’s an exciting way to watch while enjoying the fresh air.
Pizza Station
Since this is a family pizza party watching football, the foodie highlight of the happening should be the pizza, of course! To make it fun, you set up a pizza-making station. Here’s how you can do it:
Dough Options: Prepare various types of crusts—traditional, thin crust, gluten-free if needed or even cauliflower crust for the health-conscious members of the family. Have a chat beforehand with everyone so you know the favourites and you can avoid overbuying and ending up wasting food.
Sauce Selection: You can offer a range of sauces like tomato, pesto, barbecue, and garlic olive oil.
Cheese Variety: Cheese lovers will rejoice over a selection that includes mozzarella, cheddar, feta, parmesan, and vegan cheese options.
Toppings Galore: Prepare a buffet of toppings such as pepperoni, mushrooms, bell peppers, onions, olives, and dare I say it…pineapple.
It’s great to involve people in making the pizzas – an opportunity to chit-chat, get creative with food, try new toppings maybe.
Side Dishes and Snacks
While the pizzas are the star of the meal, it’s always a good idea to offer a couple of additional snacks and healthy side dishes. Summer football watching usually goes on for a few hours!
Appetizers: Bowls of tortilla chips and pico de gallo salsa, guacamole, or a veggie platter with hummus and and aioli dips. Finger foods like mozzarella sticks or stuffed mushrooms will also go over well. Of course, my favourites: olives and my signature Hungarian pogacsa can’t be missing either. You can discuss the favourites with your family and serve what they like.
Salads: A mixed green salad on the side of the pizza offers a guilt-free addition or a superfood salad can provide a lighter option for those who prefer that instead of pizza.
Desserts: Finish off the meal with sweet treats. Cookie and ice cream since it’s summer, brownies with fruit skewers make for easy and delicious desserts. I went for store bought profiterole last time combined with strawberries.
Game Time Activities
Since you’re putting all the effort organising a fun family and friends pizza party whilst watching World Cup games, might as well have a social side of it, so it’s not just watching football. Plus, a little extra fun hurts no-one!
Football Trivia: Before the game starts, host a trivia game focused on the sport’s history, famous players, and fun football facts. You can offer small prizes for winners! (Or the losers will clear up after the party…)
Prediction Board: Set up a chart where everyone can predict the score of the game, who will score first, or who will be the player of the match. Keep track throughout the match to see who can get close to their predictions.
After the Match Games: if the children can stay up later and everyone is up for it, you can prepare a quick board game or card game session after the match to wind down after all the excitement of the match.
Seating
Make sure that there’s ample seating arranged, around the table, on scattered cushions or blanket on the lawn in a way that everyone can view the screen. I tend to keep it very relaxed and love eating on a picnic blanket, but others might prefer eating by the table.
Remember the Kids
Since the summer football watching pizza party will also have the younger family members, you could also set up a separate area where they can play games, do crafts, or watch cartoons during game breaks or when feel they need a break. Not to mention, that keeping them entertained will allow the adults to focus on the match.
Drinks
Fizzy drinks, iced fruit juices to adult beverages like beer or wine, depending on your family guest list. It’s also a fun idea to create a signature drink for the evening that relates to the team colours. I think, whilst we all try to offer healthy options for the young family members most of the time – a fizzy soda during the summer family pizza party and football watching would not do too much harm and the same applies for the sweet treats. Everything in moderation.
