Chocolate salami – what a blast from the past! This was festive treat to make in my childhood. I can’t really remember the recipe from back then, but it was a very easy dessert to make, because it’s a no-bake recipe. I thought about the ingredients and how could I make a veganised chocolate salami and after a few versions, I’m happy to share this fairly simple recipe with you. For this recipe is not only vegan, but it doesn’t need any butter or egg alternatives either, just a little bit of vegan single cream.
Learn how to make chocolate salami, a crunchy treat with chocolate ganache, nuts and biscotti.

What is Chocolate Salami?
Chocolate salami is a delightful and unconventional dessert that originates from Italy. Like traditional salami. However, despite its name, it contains no meat; rather, it is a no-bake treat made primarily from chocolate, biscuits, nuts, and sometimes liqueur is added too. The mixture is rolled into a log shape, then chilled until firm. Once set, it is sliced into rounds (just not as thin as the real salami), showcasing its rich, chocolatey interior dotted with chunks of biscuit and nuts – looking very much like salami or mortadella. This is a fun and easy-to-make dessert and children will enjoy helping to prepare it.
Do I Need Alcohol in Chocolate Salami?
No. My version has no alcohol and it’s perfectly possible to leave it out entirely. This way it’s also children-friendly.
Does Chocolate Salami Need to be Refrigerated?
Yes. Refrigerating helps the chocolate ganache set and bind the rest of the ingredients into the shape of salami.
How Long Chocolate Salami Last in The Fridge?
In an airtight container it will last 1-2 weeks. Because I use no egg or butter in the recipe, I will put that for at least two weeks.
What Makes This Chocolate Salami Vegan?
It has no eggs or butter and instead of dairy single cream I used vegan single cream (soy based) to make the chocolate ganache.
Tips When Making this Best Vegan Chocolate Salami
- You can use any combination of nuts you like
- I used dried cranberries for a festive taste, but you can also use raisins or sultanas. Candied fruit is also a good addition.
- likewise with regards of the biscotti – it can be swapped for any crunchy biscuits like amaretti, rich tea or ginger snaps
- I intentionally swapped the sugar dust for healthier, desiccated coconut
- You can add marzipan stars or any other decoration on the top
- You can use a mixture of vegan milk and vegan dark chocolate – or just dark, I don’t recommend milk only, that would be too sweet

Best Vegan Chocolate Salami Recipe
Equipment
- Clean plastic bag to wrap the salami in
Ingredients
- 300b vegan chocolate I used 1/3 vegan milk and 2/3 vegan dark chocolate
- 100 ml vegan single cream soy cream or similar
- 75g g ground almond
- 100 g dried pistachio nuts can be roasted
- handful dried cranberries
- 100 g dried cashews can be roasted
- 200 g biscotti or amaretti/rich tea/ginger snaps
- 30 g desiccated coconut
Instructions
- Melt the chocolate (break it into segments beforehand) in a heatproof bowl suspended over a saucepan of simmering water. Add the vegan single cream and mix well until fully combined and melted. Switch the heat off, leave it as it is until you do the next steps so the chocolate ganache stays warm and melted.

- Next step is to bash the biscotti with a rolling pin until you have crumble.

- Take the bowl of chocolate ganache off the hob and fold in all the ingredients.

- Tip the mixture into a clean, long plastic bag. Using your hands, mould the mixture into a fat salami-like log through the plastic bag. Make it approximately 30cm/12in long. Shift it into the middle of the bag, leaving about an inch or two of both sides that you can pinch together as if you were fastening the beg. Twist the ends by still grasping both ends of the plastic bag and rolling the sausage-log towards you several times.

- Place the wrapped salami into the fridge and let it set. Ideally a few hours.
- When it's chill and firm, you can remove it from the bag, roll it into desiccated coconut and add marzipan stars or other things to decorate it.Slice it to serve or alternatively cube it. It will last in the fridge for a week or so.
