Once you’ve found your dream property and your offer has been accepted, the final step is to get the keys and move into your new home. Once you’ve got your move date all sorted, it’s time to get organised and be ready for what awaits.
Moving house doesn’t have to be an overwhelming experience. As long as you know what to expect and have all bases covered, the big day should run smoothly. To help keep everything on track, here is a practical guide on how to gear up for your house move.
Remove Clutter
Before you can even think of boxing everything up and getting it ready for move day, you need to start by thinking about what you don’t want to take with you. Some people make the mistake of taking everything apart from the kitchen sink. However, for those downsizing, you may not have the space to accommodate every possession. Removing clutter is the best thing you can do to start off with. Once you say goodbye to junk, you’ll find it much easier and quicker to pack.
Get Packing
Now it’s time to get packing. Whether it’s the kitchen utensils, bedroom linen, or kids’ toys, make sure every box is labelled. This will be a huge help once you start unpacking in your new home. Packing doesn’t have to be a chore either. To make it less stressful and somewhat enjoyable, why not stick some music on? Listening to music can reduce stress and make you excited for the journey ahead. Make sure to get your loved ones involved too. You can’t be expected to pack up everything on your own!
Make Use of Self Storage
Once you’ve got rid of clutter and packed up, there may be some items you’re not sure of bringing with you or tossing in the bin. This is where self-storage comes into play. They can keep hold of your prized possessions and have an array of storage container sizes to choose from. Make sure to ask for a quote, as how much you pay for storage will depend on the overall duration.
Create a Checklist
One fear many homeowners have when moving house is forgetting something important behind. To stop this from happening, it’s wise to create a checklist. This will mean you can tick off each task as you go, meaning no stone is left unturned. It’s handy to use your notes app on your phone for this. That way, you know it’s always there and you can come back to it as and when you need to.
Clean Your Home
Before you give your keys away, you’ll want the new homeowners to arrive to a clean and tidy space, like you’d expect from your new property. Therefore, cleaning your home once everything has been removed is key. Make sure to dust, hoover, and wipe mirrors and glass down.
Moving homes comes with all kinds of tasks and challenges that must be completed before your move day arrives. Even if you consider yourself the organised kind, there’s always a job that needs to be done in the lead up to your move. Doing and thinking of all the above will minimise stress and get you fully prepared for moving day.
