We’ve been staying at The Rembrandt Hotel every year for the last 5 years as part of our anniversary weekend in London. Every year, we treat ourselves to this child free weekend, staying right opposite our favourite spot in London, the V&A, spending the afternoon visiting the current temporary exhibitions, followed by cocktails in the Members Room, then heading out for dinner and a show or theatre. We then have a lovely lie in and a nice breakfast, possibly one more activity or nice walk around with all the Christmas decs out in Knightsbridge – as our wedding anniversary is in December. It’s just wonderful and we always look forward to it.
London at Christmas time is magical. Can be a bit manic, yes, but we don’t go shopping on Oxford Street and avoid the busy places. I enjoy being a tourist in the my city I call home for the past 13 years – even though, we always lived in the suburbs, but used to work in town 5 days a week and we often spend days outs in London with the children.
I took a few photos last time, I’ll share them just for you dear reader to see the vibe 🙂
About The Rembrandt Hotel
What attractions are nearby?
Like I said, the hotels location plays a major role why we keep booking it every year: Knightsbridge is a lovely London neighbourhood, probably the most London-esqe area of all. The hotel is opposite of the Victoria and Albert Museum. The Natural History Museum, Science Museum, Hyde Park, theatres and the Royal Albert Hall are also within a 10-minute walk. Equally, the most famous shopping destinations such as Harrods, Sloane Street, Harvey Nichols and Kings Road are also 10 minutes walk away.
What is the address of The Rembrandt Hotel?
11 Thurloe Place, Knightsbridge, London, SW7 2RS
Which tube station is near The Rembrandt Hotel?
South Kensington tube station is only 5 minutes walk from the hotel.
Can you park at The Rembrandt Hotel?
No, the hotel hasn’t got a parking area, but there are plenty of car parks in Knightsbridge and South Kensington offer secure 24-hour parking. We recommend Chelsea Cloisters, which is about a 10-minute walk away and which offers discounted rates for hotel guests.
Is The Rembrandt Hotel a luxury hotel?
The Rembrandt Hotel is a 4* property within the Sarova Hotels chain (couple of other hotels in the UK and a few health clubs as well as one in Kenya.) It’s not a luxury hotel.
What was The Rembrandt Hotel before?
It was once elegant apartments for Harrods.
What room categories can you choose from?
We normally book the Classic room which is the cheapest category. The options are:
- Classic Room
- Executive Room
- Club Queen
- Grand King
- Signature King
- Brompton Suite
What’s included in the room rate?
Air conditioning, free WiFi and full English breakfast. Also a free welcome drink if you book directly with them – which we always do.
Review: why are we keep going back to The Rembrandt Hotel?
Let me take my professional, ex-hotelier hat off and write this review as a guest, to another future guest.
The number one reason is the location you get for the price. There’s no point to stay elsewhere when we want to go to theatre and museums. That’s number one. It’s an easy access from Waterloo too, where we get in with the train from the suburbs.
The price of the night is not outrageously expensive. Compared to similar 4 star properties at other prime locations in London (but not our preferred location), The Rembrandt is decently priced.
Thirdly, you get a really really good breakfast included in the rate. It’s really excellent, with lot’s to choose from, not just full English but Middle-Eastern additions to the extensive self-serve buffet as well as vegan options including not having to ask for nut milk because there are four different ones are there to choose from, from oat milk to almond milk. You make your own coffee and tea – but in return no one bothers you and you can have a leisurely slow brekkie.
The beds are comfortable and the size of the classic room and bathroom is decent – again. It’s not a shoebox, it’s a good size room with a good size bathroom.
Sustainability – wooden keycards, no mini products in the bathroom. Thumbs up. They have received a Silver Hotel Award from ECOsmart Accreditation. I’ve not heard about this, so I looked it up: hotels can buy membership to get the certification along with some consultancy (I saw you coming…. haha) – so it’s as meaningless as you can get. So that’s that. They list a lot of other totally standard things such as LED bulbs and dual flush toilets.
The only thing is – which I’ve been kept pointing out for a decade now it seems – where has the minibar disappeared from 4* hotels in the UK? It’s classless just to have a fridge with a complimentary bottle of water (which is nice, but also pretty standard these days) and two water glasses. Bring back the minibar!
That’s it for us. The value for money at the location we want to be at.
During the years we never tried the spa or gym as we normally just stay overnight (check in as early as possible and check out as late as possible!).
True, the staff is nice and friendly, the concierge chaps have character and wit beyond just niceness – which is how most 4-5* hotels should be and are in London. So that’s not an extra, it’s a given.
We even had a fantastic view this time:
