Here’s the an honest review of Earthborn Paints Flower Pot Shade that I used recently for our living room’s makeover.
We have moved to our house last year but it’s still very much a work in progress. There are many things to fix that didn’t come up in the survey – and we had to make a priority plan. Starting with kitchen, then moving onto bathrooms and flooring. The previous owner must have spent a lot of money on it – but everything was done pretty badly. Not what you expect to discover after purchase. So, naturally, we started to work on whatever we could and DIY has become a lifestyle. We’re not very good at it, but with some things we are surprisingly good: like me and painting walls. I have painted most walls in the house, bit by bit, room by room. I actually really enjoy painting! And I got better at it too.

Choosing the perfect colour for an MCM living room
The last room that was remaining was the main living room. I really wanted this room to be perfect. Since the house was built in the 50’s and it has mid-century modern features – I wanted to go down that road for decor too. I must say it’s not difficult for me: I absolutely adore MCM (that and Art Deco are my favourites). Being a child in the 80’s in a post communist country: my childhood was surrounded by late MCM colours and jet-age designs. This is probably one of the main reason I love it so much: it’s nostalgic for me. But also the bold colours and sleek wooden designs are really dopamine boosting for me.
So, I wanted to have a big, bold colour from the MCM palette for the main living room and just as I was thinking of finding the right shade, our ways with Earthborn Paints crossed. Well, I thought – this was simple meant to be!

What I thought about it
I chose an interior paint thats called a Lifestyle emulsion finish in Flower Pot shade – which cute name is meant to refer of the exact terracotta shade of a flower pot. Perfect. (The price of this paint is £55 for 2.5l can – I used up a full 5l can.)
At first, I did get a little scared staring down at a paint that looked rather orange. But I did look up images of the paint used in projects and it looked very different when applied on the wall and dried. So I thought, oh well, worst case scenario is to re-paint again. I always search for images of the used product when it comes to paints. They can vary a lot and look very different in the reality – but in the web shops, they often just show you the photo OF THE ACTUAL PAINT as it comes out of the tin.
I covered up the white wooden panel on the first wall and put up masking tapes. Soon I realised, the paint doesn’t sprinkle or run and working with a roller – the plastic cover isn’t needed. It was very easy to work with this gorgeous paint. Smooth and consistent, I didn’t even have to stir it, it was just fresh as if they have only mixed it an hour ago. Very easy application and great cover. I had a dark grey wall and I did need two coats of Earthborn Flower Pot to cover even the lightest hue of grey.
It dried very quickly, I could start adding the second coat within 12 hours. At that point my MIL popped around and complemented on the colour choice and stopped as taking her coat off. She then said: it doesn’t smell at all! So then I did realise, indeed, no smell, whatsoever, woking with windows closed. No headache either, which I always get from conventional paints, because they are so heavy in chemicals.
The finished room looks like the most perfect terracotta shade, I am over the moon with the choice of shade and very happy with the paint. Would buy it again absolutely 100%.
With the leftover paint – I’m going to tackle the cloak room, I reckon. Can’t get enough of this colour!
